Background

The collaborative research project entitled "Anthropology of Trans-area Migration in East/Southeast Asia: Culture, Ethnicity and Identity Within Cross-marriage/Cross-divorce Network" is organized as a joint research project supported both financially and logistically by the Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia and Africa (ILCAA), Tokyo University of Foreign Studies.

Since the year 2010, ILCAA has been assigned as a joint usage/research center by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan.  ILCAA was expected to be a key institution in promoting international research for the languages and cultures of Asia and Africa.  The collaborative research project "Anthropology of Trans-area Migration in East/Southeast Asia: Culture, Ethnicity and Identity within Cross-marriage/Cross-divorce Network" is also organized as a part of this institution.  The project plan for "Anthropology of Trans-area Migration in East/Southeast Asia: Culture, Ethnicity and Identity Within Cross-marriage/Cross-divorce Network" research project was submitted to the ILCAA in response to the "Call for applications" in 2009.  The project plan was accepted in 2010.  The 3-year project started in April 2010 and went on until March 2012.
